Fiberglass Cloth, is glass in fiber form. All forms of glass fibers begin with basically the same manufacturing process. The various ingredients, ie: Silicon Dioxide, calcium Dioxide, Aluminum Dioxide, are mixed at high temperatures to make molten glass. Continuous filaments are pulled rapidly from the molten glass through fine, multi-holed bushings. A strand is produced by combining many individual continuous filaments. The filaments are coated with a binder to protect them from damage during weaving called (sizing). Glass fibers are made from different formulations. "E" (electrical) glass being the most common while "S" (high Strength) is made for more special applications. WARPING,
is accomplished by laying fiberglass yarns in paralell order, lengthwise.
FILL, the crossecting fiberglass yarns that fill-in the Warp
yarns. |
